Visa-Free Entry (Up to 30 Days)

Citizens of many countries can enter Mongolia without a visa for stays up to 30 days. This includes:

  • All EU countries
  • United Kingdom

Asia-Pacific

  • Japan
  • South Korea
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • Hong Kong

This list is not exhaustive. Please verify current requirements with the Mongolian embassy in your country.

If You Need a Visa

Citizens of countries not on the visa-free list need to obtain a visa before travel. Options include:

Tourist Visa (J)

  • Valid for 30-90 days
  • Single or multiple entry
  • Apply at Mongolian embassy/consulate
  • Processing time: 5-10 business days
  • Cost: $50-100 depending on nationality

E-Visa (Select Countries)

  • Available for some nationalities
  • Apply online at evisa.mn
  • Processing time: 3-5 business days
  • Print confirmation to show at border

Required Documents

For visa-free entry or visa applications, you'll typically need:

  • Passport: Valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned departure from Mongolia
  • Blank pages: At least 2 blank pages for stamps
  • Return ticket: Proof of onward travel (airlines may check)
  • Accommodation: We provide booking confirmations for your expedition
  • Travel insurance: Proof of coverage (may be requested)

Important Notes

  • Visa requirements change frequently — always verify current rules
  • 30-day visa-free stays cannot be extended easily
  • For expeditions over 30 days, you may need a visa regardless of nationality
  • Register with immigration if staying 30+ days

Arrival Process

  1. Complete arrival card (distributed on flight)
  2. Proceed to immigration
  3. Present passport and arrival card
  4. Receive entry stamp
  5. Collect baggage
  6. Pass through customs (green channel if nothing to declare)
  7. Our driver will meet you with your name sign

Special Permits

Some expedition areas require additional permits:

  • Border zones: Altai, eastern steppe near China/Russia
  • Strictly Protected Areas: Great Gobi A, Mongol Daguur
  • Research permits: For participation in scientific activities

We arrange all necessary permits as part of your expedition — no action required on your part.
